Pride of Britain’s This Morning Emergency Services Award celebrates blue light heroes who go above and beyond the call of duty to protect us.

You can nominate any emergency worker, including police officers, firefighters, paramedics, coastguard officers, lifeboat volunteers, mountain rescue teams and helicopter medics.

In 2014, police officer Sara Widdrington was honoured for tackling a gunman when she was off-duty in a supermarket. She could have simply fled the store in Scarborough, N Yorks, and dialled 999, but instead she put her own life on the line to protect the public.

Sara ran around the checkout counter and seized hold of the gunman’s arm, disarmed him and held him down as the petrified cashier printed for the exit.

Sara received her award from comedy icons Alan Carr and the late Ronnie Corbett.

A team from West Midlands Fire Service was honoured in 2018 for saving the life of a driver who was impaled on a metal pole after a car accident.

Phil Ewins was on his way to propose to his then girlfriend when he crashed.

Nominate your hero for Pride of Britain Award

We're just a few months away from the 25th Pride of Britain Awards.

It's going to be a night to remember, and we're on the lookout for normal people who have done incredible things to be part of the star-studded celebrations.

Nominations are now open for all eight categories - and we need your help to find the most worthy winners. Previously winners have included Post Office scandal hero Alan Bates and rugby league star Rob Burrow.

All you need to do is fill out a short form on the Pride of Britain website - which you can access here.

The categories are:

  • TSB COMMUNITY HERO For someone who goes to remarkable lengths to help others.
  • ITV FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR For tireless and inspirational charity fundraising, aged 18-plus.
  • GOOD MORNING BRITAIN YOUNG FUNDRAISER OF THE YEAR For those aged 17 and under.
  • THIS MORNING EMERGENCY SERVICES AWARD For police, fire, ambulance, paramedics or air, sea or mountain rescue workers.
  • OUTSTANDING BRAVERY For adults who risk their own safety to help others in danger.
  • CHILD/TEENAGER OF COURAGE For battling the odds to help others, or putting themselves at risk to save someone in danger.
  • LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT To recognise far-reaching achievement, possibly on a national or international scale.
  • SPECIAL RECOGNITION For achievements not covered in other categories, such as inspiring carers, campaigners and armed forces members.
  • He said afterwards: “I really didn’t think I was going to survive. Who was going to get me out of this?”

The answer was a team of heroes from West Midlands Fire Service, who had to make life-or-death decisions in seconds, as the wrong movement could have killed Phil.

Against the odds they saved his life, and they were reunited with him on stage at Pride of Britain.
