A man who was fatally attacked by dogs in a relative's garden has been described as a "kind-hearted, caring and compassionate" individual.

Nicholas Glass's family say they "miss him desperately" following the 32-year-old man's death on August 21. West Midlands Police said Mr Glass was found dead in the garden of a relative’s property following "a really tragic incident," which officers continue to investigate.

Speaking today in a statement released via West Midlands Police, Mr Glass's family said: "In Nicholas we’ve lost a loving son, brother and uncle who was adored by all of his family and friends. He was kind hearted, caring and compassionate and he’d do anything for anyone. We are devastated at his loss and we all miss him desperately."

It’s believed up to four dogs were present around the time Mr Glass was attacked in Rubery, Birmingham. All four dogs remain in West Midlands Police's secure kennels, said the force today. Two of the dogs were XL Bullies, a banned breed. Neither have a certificate of exemption.

The family released a photo of Mr Glass tonight to accompany the poignant tribute. The force said a post-mortem was carried out, which showed Mr Glass had died as a result of injuries consistent with having been bitten by a dog. Two of the dogs were seized by police at the time, and the remaining pair were found two days later.

Speaking at the time, Superintendent Sally Simpson, of West Midlands Police, said: "This is a really tragic incident, and the family of the man are being supported by officers. The investigation into his death is continuing, and our priority right now is finding the other dogs we believe may have been involved."

It comes after a mum, who was praised as the “kindest soul to cross people’s paths”, died following a dog attack in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. Michelle Hempstead, 34, was attacked by the animal and taken to a local hospital before being moved to Royal London Hospital, where she died on July 30.

An online fundraising page, aiming to raise £8,000 for Ms Hempstead’s funeral and launched by friend Liah Smith, described her as the “kindest soul”. She wrote: “Michelle wasn’t just a mother to five beautiful children, she was a daughter, a friend, a neighbour, a big support system for the people around her but undoubtedly the kindest soul to have crossed everyone’s paths.
