Frustration was obvious among Manchester United's players on Saturday – highlighted by experienced Casemiro's outburst at captain Bruno Fernandes.

During Saturday's 2-1 loss at Brighton and Hove Albion, the experienced defensive midfielder vented towards club captain Bruno Fernandes in the first-half, after failing to capitalise on a dangerous free kick. United won a free-kick midway into Brighton's half, with the 29-year-old Portuguese star stepping up to deliver a ball into the box.

While an unmarked Casemiro connected with the ball, the Brazilian sent it soaring over the bar – much to his own disgust. But instead of turning his attention to his own effort, the 32-year-old decided to give Fernandes a piece of his mind on his delivery.

Casemiro had to check his run during the free-kick, with the ball looking to land in the penalty area behind him - turning to his captain to berate his efforts. And while he could have easily put the Red Devils 1-0 up with a better header during the instance, Casemiro instead saw fingers pointed his way for Brighton taking the lead in the 32nd minute.

The midfielder jogged back into the box as an unmarked Danny Wellbeck found the back of the net against his former club. Kaoru Mitoma picked the ball up deep into enemy territory, finding the Seagulls striker unmarked in the middle of the box for a tap in - the 100th goal of his Premier League career thus far.

And social media users were quick to point out Casemiro's error at the other end of the pitch. One wrote: "Maguire marked a man, same as Martinez, Casemiro left Welbeck unmarked, that’s the reason for the goal," while another complained: "Casemiro jogging back kills me."

Manchester United's late win on the opening game of the season last week, edging past Fulham 1-0 at Old Trafford, was quickly forgotten thanks to Joao Pedro's injury-time winner at the Amex, which will only further highlight the frustrations in the United camp.

Erik ten Hag's players clearly have work to be done should they hope to chase at least a top-four finish, especially considering their dismal eighth-place finish in the 2023/24 campaign. Up next for United is arch-rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford next Sunday.
