In the shadow of Gladiator, Exodus: Gods and Kings looks like one of director Ridley Scott’s most dramatic outings yet.

Charting the relationship of ‘once brothers’ Moses, played by Christian Bale and Pharaoh Ramses, played by Joel Edgerton (Warrior, King Arthur), it’s the biblical tale of the book of Exodus.

Staring The Dark Knight himself and helmed by the Prometheus creator Scott, the trailer sure looks like the movie will pack a (people freeing) punch.

As Moses demands that the Pharaoh releases the slaves, so he can lead them to the Promised Land, all hell will break loose - bringing a shed loads of epic special effects to detail the Egyptian story.

Here is what we picked up from the trailer.

The Red Sea WILL be parting

It wouldn’t be the story of Moses if he didn’t move a little water. In the biblical account, be and the fleeing Israelites are trapped between the Pharaoh's advancing chariots and a body of water. Thanks to divine intervention, a mighty east wind blows splitting the waters to leave a passage of dry land with walls of water on both sides.

“Let’s just see who is more effective at killing”

The battles look as though they’ll be on par with some of the best Hollywood has delivered. One look at the horses charging, Bale taking out the Pharaoh’s minions and challenges like “…let’s just see who is more effective at killing” inform that blood will be shed retelling this tale.

Great effects AND great cast

With Bale and Edgerton being joined by Aaron Paul, Ben Kingsley, Sigourney Weaver, Ben Mendelsohn, Joel Turturro and Indira Varma, expect the cast to be as great as the effects.

Christian Bale’s low-pitched Dark Knight voice growl is back

Despite several films being in-between The Dark Knight Rises, namely American Hustle, Bale returns with a deep, engaging, husky voice to play the leader. Let’s just hope he has some ye old Strepsils after he says “I came here to tell you something is coming that is out of my control.”

Impressive Scott-constructed sets

It has been reported that Scott has opted for old-school scale on this project and actually constructed massive sets for his movie - a move that will pump up the story to match the ambition of the project. Bale has also constructed an interesting beard.
