Ten days into free agency and virtually every prominent unrestricted free agent has either re-signed with his team or found a new home.

Those who remain in the market are part of what’s often described as the “leftover pile.”

That includes a few former Detroit Red Wings. Some likely will sign with an NHL club before training camp, perhaps settling for a two-way contract. Others might play in Europe. A few might retire.

Here’s a look at some ex-Red Wings still available (with 2023-24 club):

Austin Czarnik, Detroit: Fourth-line center split last season between Red Wings (one assist in 34 games) and Grand Rapids (10 goals, 28 points in 38 regular season games; eight points in nine playoff games).

Adam Erne, Edmonton: Bottom-six winger spent much of the season with AHL Bakersfield (six goals, 12 points in 36 games) and produced only two points in 24 games with the Oilers.

Sam Gagner. Edmonton: The 17-year NHL veteran played only 28 games with Edmonton (five goals, 10 points), spending time in the minors, and was a healthy scratch in the playoffs.

Dominik Kubalik, Ottawa: He experienced a rough season with 11 goals, 15 points and a minus-30 rating, after scoring 20 goals in Detroit the previous season. He was included in the Alex DeBrincat trade. Tampa Bay has been mentioned as a possible landing spot.

Magnus Hellberg, Florida: Goaltender played just three games with Pittsburgh and none for the Panthers following a trade-deadline deal, spending most of the season in the AHL.

Gustav Lindstrom, Anaheim: Defenseman selected 38th overall by Red Wings in 2017 played 46 games between Montreal and Anaheim (three goals, seven assists), which did not qualify him despite a plus-12 rating in 32 games (second on the team).

Daniel Sprong, Detroit: Surprisingly still unsigned since no available UFA had more goals (18) and points (43), excluding Joe Pavelski, who’s expected to retire.

Marc Staal, Philadelphia: The 37-year-old defenseman played 35 games last season (one goal, four assists), his 17th in the league.

Jakub Vrana, St. Louis: Few players have fallen further in just a couple of seasons than this former 13th overall pick who’s only 28. He struggled with the Blues (two goals, four assists in 21 games) and spent most of the season with AHL Springfield (16 goals, 20 assists 42 games).

Filip Zadina, San Jose: The No. 6 overall pick in 2018, he’s only 24 but was set free by the Sharks, who declined to make him a qualifying offer after signing him one year ago to a one-year, $1.1 million contract. He walked away from the final two years of his contract with the Red Wings (valued at $4.56 million) for a fresh opportunity. He played 72 games in San Jose and produced 13 goals and 10 assists, posting a minus-44 rating. Boston is rumored to be interested.

Others: Kyle Criscuolo, Turner Elson, Taro Hirose, Michael Hutchinson, Matt Luff, Jared McIsaac, Mark Pysyk.
