Diaz vs. Masvidal Results: Live updates of the undercard and main event

MMA Fighting has Diaz vs. Masvidal results for the Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal fight card, live blogs for the entire main card, and more from the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., on Saturday night.

When the main event begins around 12 a.m. ET, check out our Diaz vs. Masvidal live round-by-round updates for our live blog of the main event. It will be the first meeting between Diaz and Masvidal in a boxing ring. Masvidal beat Diaz in their lone UFC fight less than four years ago.

Former UFC champion Anthony Pettis will battle Chris Avila will also battle on the main card.

Main Card Live Blog

Devin Cushing vs. Manny Correa

Round 1: Cushing light on his feet, he pokes at Correa with a body shot from long distance. Fast jabs from Cushing early. Counter right from Cushing connects. Straight left from Cushing. Correa having difficulty finding an opening to throw back. Cushing left hand to the body. Correa wants to land the right, but it’s falling short. Pressure from Cushing throughout.

Round 2: Cushing takes center and that jab just keeps coming. Correa catches a lunging Cushing with a right hand. Four-punch combination from Cushing puts Correa on the defensive. Right hand from Correa. Cushing with a pair of lefts to the body. Correa swinging wild. He sneaks in a left hand over the top. The referee lets the boxers work through some clinching. Cushing wins an exchange with a right hook. He’s staying in Correa’s face.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Cushing. Overall, 20-18 Cushing.

Round 3: Correa advances but he can’t get past Cushing’s jab. Counter right by Correa. And then a counter right by Cushing. That jab has Correa flinching as he tries to attack. Correa corners Cushing, but can’t do much with the position and Cushing punches his way out of there. Correa more aggressive this round, even if he’s still not landing much.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-9, Cushing. Overall, 30-27 Cushing.

Round 4: Triple jab from Cushing has Correa completely off balance. Cushing’s defense holding up as Correa closes the distance looking land with power. Correa with some good punches inside. Cushing cracks Correa with a left. Correa scores with a left as he backs Cushing up. Cushing staying evasive, but this was Correa’s best round so far.

Round 5: Cushing circling and punching as Correa pursues. Correa doing his best to ugly up the fight. He starts mocking Cushing for all his movement, Cushing just raises his arms in the air and dares him to come in. Correa eats a few punches for his antics. Cushing continues to stick and move. He lets his hands go and hits Correa with a left hand.

Round 6: Cushing to the body to start the sixth. Referee warns Cushing for excessive holding. Correa scoring with punches inside. This one is getting sloppy, which plays into what Correa wants to do. Not landing clean, but Correa definitely more effective through two minutes. Short left by Correa. He lands a nice uppercut. Clear round for Correa.

Round 7: Correa’s aggression really pulling off. He can avoid a loss here if he keeps this up. Cushing tags the body and lands pawing punches up top, Correa with a good left hand. Uppercut inside by Correa. He pumps a couple of jabs into Cushing’s face. Correa gets in and out with a pair of punches, Cushing has slowed down considerably. More showboating from Correa. Could be premature for that.

Round 8: Cushing wisely back to the body. They tie up and Correa gets the better of it, Cushing leaving his chin out there. So is Correa as he’s cracked by a hard left. Referee letting them work as they trade short punches in close. Correa making Cushing miss, but can’t quite capitalize with his counter. Cushing jabs and goes to the body. They’re staying busy with a minute to go. Cushing just leaning on Correa. Cushing with a left, Correa answers. Trading to the bell. Close, close round. Scorecards could be all over the place.

Amado Vargas vs. Sean Garcia

Yup, Ryan Garcia is here and he walked out with his brother Sean.

Round 1: Vargas immediaely marches forward, but Garcia doesn’t bite. He’s keeping his defense high and tight. Vargas looks like he wants to end this one early. Garcia sticking with his jab to settle the fight down. Garcia lets his right hand go as he corners Vargas. Vargas with a couple of heavy body punches. Good combination by Vargas. Swing and a miss by Garcia. He connects with a right hook. Vargas controlling the range well.

Round 2: Now it’s Garcia starting the round hot. Vargas lands a body shot. He’s focused on that area, then switches it up to score to the head. They get tangled up and there’s a nice takedown by Vargas. Probably shouldn’t score that. Vargas relentless to the body. Garcia relying on that right hook, but Vargas has it scouted. Vargas banging those gloves against Garcia’s sides. Garcia has his back to the ropes as he waits to counter. There’s a good punch by Garcia as he closes the round strong.

Round 3: Vargas just firing away, Garcia has to turtle up. Garcia lands two solid punches in response. Vargas just keeps coming forward. More rips to the body by Vargas. Garcia loads up that left hand and fires back. Vargas lands a right hook to the body. Stiff right from Vargas as they meet in the middle. He smacks Garcia’s body and then ducks a pair of counter punches. Garcia answers back, that gets Vargas’ attention. Three rounds for Vargas on the MMA Fighting card, but Garcia has plenty of time to turn this around.

Round 4: Garcia battling back as Vargas tries to walk him down. Vargas marching forward and throwing, Garcia waiting to counter. Vargas to the body, he mixes in an uppercut and he has Garcia on the ropes. Garcia lets his hands go, but Vargas fires in another uppercut. He’s giving Garcia no room to operate. Uppercut and down goes Garcia, right on his keester. Garcia answers the count with 45 seconds left in the round. Vargas battering him. Garcia is still in it though, he’s rifling in punches, Vargas keeping his gloves high and tight. Now Vargas stings Garcia again. What a war!

MMA Fighting scores the round, 10-8 Vargas. Overall, 40-35 Vargas.

Round 5: Vargas right back to it. He smells blood. Garcia on the ropes, but he’s still defending himself and returning punches, no angle for a referee stoppage here. Vargas bludgeons the body. Right hand by Garcia. His midsection is wide open though and Vargas just continues to tee off. Vargas feeling himself, does a full dance and twirl much to the delight of the crowd. Vargas walking him down, he knows the fight is his right now. Vargas smothering Garcia on the ropes. Garcia doing enough to keep this one going. Liver shot from Vargas at the bell. That can’t feel good.

MMA Fighting scores the round, 10-9 Vargas. Overall, 50-44 Vargas.

Round 6: Right hand from Vargas rocks Garcia. I don’t know how he keeps coming back from these shots. Vargas keeps turning his insides to pudding. The referee has finally seen enough. Garcia wasn’t close to being KO’d, but he just could not stop Vargas from unloading punches on him. No complaint from Garcia. It wasn’t his night.

Curmel Moton vs. Nikolai Buzolin

Round 1: Moton controlling the center of the ring to start this fight. He’s showing a speedy jab to the head and body. The 18-year-old methodically cutting off the ring, Buzolin without any answers as he eats a hard body shot. Moton utilizing a left hook to attack the body. Clear speed advantage for the youngster. There’s a left hand counter by Buzolin. That just wakes Moton up as he pours on the pressure. Left hand cracks Buzolin and he is hurt. Body shot drops Buzolin to a knee. Seconds left in the round, so Buzolin survives after answering the count.

MMA Fighting scores the round 10-8, Moton.

Round 2: Buzolin coming out aggressive, but Moton showing slick head movement. Moton assaulting Buzolin’s midsection. He’s on the hunt. Moton hammering away with Moton on the ropes. Not sure how much longer the ref is going to let this one go. Buzolin stuck in a corner eating punches. Referee has seen enough and Buzolin knows it.

Anthony Pettis vs. Chris Avila

Round 1: Avila keeping his jab long. Pettis more adventurous as Avila works to cut off angles. Pettis to the body. Good counters by Pettis. Avila picking his spots, not a lot of volume either way. Jab connects for Avila. Pettis circles and throws a left. Glancing left by Pettis scores. Avila to the body, Pettis punches his way off the ropes. Pettis jabs the body. Not a lot to score, but slight edge to Pettis.

Round 2: Pettis just pecking away. His jab is working. Avila probing with his lead hand to find an opening for the right. Avila with some success as they fight inside, but Pettis catches him with a hard right. Avila cutting a laconic pace. Pettis happy to back up and jab. Avila scores with a couple of jabs. Left hand from Avila and that might have hurt Pettis. Not much time left in the round, so we’ll see how they look coming out for Round 3.

Round 3: Pettis opens the third with a hard shot, which makes Avila smile. Avila lands a looping right. They’re keeping their distance, neither really able to gain an advantage as they throw straight punches. Avila starting to pick up the pace. Left hook connects for Avila. Pettis with a right to the body. Avila lumbering forward. His slow, looping right is working somehow. Pettis starting to fall behind.

Round 4: Lunging left hook from Pettis. Avila’s job has Pettis off balance. Pettis punishes him with a couple of good punches as he comes forward. Punches in bunches from Avila. A clean Avila right gets through. Pettis with a head-body combo, Avila undeterred. Pettis having some success countering. Avila’s volume is wearing on Pettis. The former UFC champion uncorks a right. Avila to the body as the bell rings.

Round 5: Avila with a right hand out of the gate. Pettis’ jab is landing, but Avila answers with multiple shots in response. Pettis wins a few exchanges with timely counters. Avila throws a heavy left to the body. Right on the chin from Avila. This is some ugly boxing. Avila with a steady stream of combinations. Pettis with a high right, he gets warned about striking the back of the head. Avila closes the round strong again.

Round 6: Avila immediately moves to corner Pettis. “Showtime” trying to punch his way out, but Avila showing him no respect. Clubbing right from Pettis. Avila just hasn’t stopped throwing for the last four rounds. Woozy-looking punches being traded. Pettis wants to walk Avila down, but Avila keeps putting punches out there. Avila confident he’s got this one.

Daniel Jacobs vs. Shane Mosley Jr.

Round 1: Mosley quick to cut off the ring. He picks at the body while keeping his right hand loaded up. Mosley happy to jab away as Jacobs stays on the defensive. Straight right by Mosley, he’s in and out. Combination scores for Mosley. Slow start but an easy 10-9 for Mosley.

Round 2: Mosley evading Jacobs’ punches and sticking that jab in. Jacobs is keeping his distance, which isn’t giving him any openings to throw. There’s a good right by Jacobs. Mosley leads with the right. Left hook from Mosley, Jacobs felt that one. More jabs from Mosley. They’re in close and Jacobs lands a right as they separate.

Round 3: Mosley immediately corners Jacobs. He’s taking his time with Jacobs not threatening with any punches. Straight shots connect for Mosley. He throws a few head shots, Jacobs protecting himself well. Body shot for Jacobs. Mosley keeping a steady pace. Jacobs has barely thrown anything through three rounds. Just as I write that, he lands a couple of good punches. Too little, too late.

Round 4: Mosley chasing Jacobs with his jab. Some fancy footwork from Mosley as he sneaks in a few punches. Mosley rips the body. Big right gets through for Mosley. Jacobs trying to get his jab going, but Mosley is outpacing him badly. Another late effort by Jacobs is snuffed out by Mosley tying him up. Nice jab by Jacobs. He’s waking up in the final seconds of these rounds, but to what end?

Round 5: Mosley with a big right hand, Jacobs was shaken for a moment but he recovers. Jab by Jacobs. Left from Mosley and Jacobs just barely avoids ducking right into an uppercut. Mosley to the body. Crowd jeers the lack of meaningful exchanges. Jacobs sticking with the jab, maybe preparing for another late flurry. Mosley hits the body hard. He’s finding the mark there. Good jab by Mosley.

Round 6: Jab by Jacobs, Mosley answers with a right. Mosley back to the jab. Feint from Mosley leaves Jacob open to a right. Mosley mixing up his punches enough to stifle Jacobs. Mosley controlling the range. Neither boxer willing to commit to their offense. Glancing right by Mosley. Jacobs wakes Mosley up with a counter right. Mosley keeps up the pressure.

Round 7: Mosley with a 1-2 right down the pipe. He sneaks in a right to the body. Jacobs throwing more, but can’t land clean. Short left hook from Jacobs. Mosley staying patient (a little too patient for the audience’s liking). Jacobs goes to the body. Pawing straight right from a pursuing Mosley. Mosley sticking with the game plan. He’s winning this fight.

Round 8: Mosley lets a right hand go, but only partially lands. He has Jacobs backed up to the ropes and he’s firing. As soon as Jacobs pushes back though he resets in the center of the ring. Oh no, accidental headbutt and we have a pause in the action. Jacobs has blood in his eye. Replay shows there was a good right from Mosley that landed, but their heads definitely grazed each other after that. Referee says Jacobs just needs the blood to be wiped off. Jacobs wants to continue and they will with half a minute left in this round. Mosley right back on the attack and he connects with straight punches. Jacobs hanging back, a lot of time left on the clock. He just eats a 1-2 from Mosley. Mosley doesn’t go for the finish, but cruises to another round on the cards.

Round 9: Mosley controlling the fight with his jab. Big right from Jacobs. Jacobs flicking out the jab with no follow-up. Mosley content to pick away at Jacobs, he smiles as Jacobs attempts to land a power punch. More half-hearted exchanges with time ticking away. Mosley not letting Jacobs turn this around.

Round 10: Mosley pumping that jab in Jacobs’ face. He pushes forward... but not too much. Left hook from Mosley. There’s a good right for Mosley. Jacobs just walks into a right hand, he’s showing some desperation as he lets his right hand go. Mosley answers with a right. He’s frustrating Jacobs with his movement. Jacobs lands a straight right. Wild right from Jacobs actually connects clean. Left hook by Jacobs. Another big right lands for Jacobs. Mosley absorbing these punches well, he’s taking the decision.
