Overview

This neat trail system located in the Austin metropolitan area is great for all riders. It has a good mix of creek crossings, rocky inclines and declines, limestone canyons and lots of shade from thick forest. The trails consist of mostly hard-packed dirt and loose rocks.

This outer loop covers most of the Walnut Creek Trail System, including the BMX Loop around the awesome Dirt Jump Track. The loop also includes Mark's Art, Tangle of Trails Loop, Log Loop and Servere Consequences Loop.

Following the markers with blue dots will cover a majority of the trail system. At any point, follow the "P" on the trail markers for the way back to the parking lot.

Need to Know

Walnut Creek is a "no leash" park for dogs, so be on the lookout for them and their humans.

Crowds are common because of the open public swimming pool and baseball fields. Parking can be a bit of a pain on these days.

The main loop is well-marked, but there are quite a few trails that are not.

Description

From the parking lot, a rider has the choice of either riding down the entrance road and after crossing the bridge, to your left is the BMX Loop and to your right is Windy Loop. The major trailhead starts just right of the swimming pool area. Straight on the Pool Lot Trail will lead down towards the major creek crossing.

It's best to take the 1st right just after the trailhead and take the Walnut Creek Park Trail. Be on the lookout for the sharp left for the Six Point Six Loop, then the Tangle Wild Trail that are northeast of Walnut Creek.

At the major creek crossing, go west on the Shady Springs Trail, which leads you to the Point 446 to 604 Trail / downhill on the Power Line Hill. From here, take the Log Loop, then go up Powerline Hill to find the Tangle of Trails Loop and Mark's Art. Take the Shady Springs Trail following the "P" markings. These will take you across the creek, right on Point 218 to 236 Trail, and then right for the Servere Consequences Loop. After that loop you have the option to take either the 1st right, which follows the technical section along the creek, or to head further up to the Service Road Trail. If you've chosen the latter option, go right and follow this trail all the way to the Entrance Rd, then take a left to the parking lot.

Pretty fun trail, nothing too difficult besides Endo Valley which was actually pretty sick. The trails could be marked better though. 5.5mi — 1h 30m
