Policy Priorities

NASP's advocacy team serves many different functions. The team is constantly monitoring state and federal legislation that may impact children and school psychology, taking stances on policy proposals, and then advocating NASP's position on the proposal.

Happening Now

Placeholder ImageLaws such as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), and Medicaid each impact the day-to-day practice of school psychologists and the lives of the children and families we serve. We closely monitor legislation that impacts the profession and schools on a national and state level, and work with state associations to enact their policy priorities. Up-to-date information on NASP's policy efforts can be found in our Policy Matters blog.

Our Priorities

Placeholder ImageLaws and regulations directly impact school psychologists and their role and function within schools - which impacts how we're able to work with kids. NASP offers support or voices opposition based on our official policy platform. Positions in the platform come from our position statements and resolutions that are approved by our Board of Directors and/or the leadership assembly.

Advocacy

Placeholder ImageNASP provides a significant amount of information on how to become an effective advocate for your local community, in addition to the state and national level. Most of our key policy and advocacy resources can be found on the critical issue pages or our Policy Playbook, including information on how to contact your elected officials, and other resources to help you become an effective advocate for school psychology and the children and families we serve.
