Mindy Kaling announced via Instagram that she quietly welcomed her third child in February.

The actress, director and writer posted a photo of her two other children with their new baby sister, Anne, in the middle.

“She’s the best birthday present I could’ve ever imagined,” Kaling wrote. “When things are hard, whenever I veer towards cynicism, my three kids are such a great reminder of the pure joy in my life.”

Kaling, who hasn't commented on who the father of her children is, also wrote, “I’m so lucky I live in a place where I could do this by myself, on my own timeline.”

The surprise announcement also included a photo of Kaling with her baby bump and another in the delivery room with her children.

Kaling has previously revealed that her son and daughter, Spencer and Katherine, have Indian middle names after a fan asked the South Indian actress in her comments section.

“Not my business but do your children have Indian middle names?” the user asked. “You are proud of your culture and I was wondering why the kids have very caucasian names.”

Kaling responded by saying that both her children have traditional Indian names — her son’s middle name is Avu and her daughter’s middle name is Swati.

Kaling did not respond to a request for further comment.
