Duran came off the bench to slingshot the American League ahead with a tape-measure 413-foot moonshot to right field off Reds ace Hunter Greene in the fifth inning, which was enough for him to earn him MVP Award honors. The 27-year-old outfielder’s metamorphosis into an upper-echelon fantasy contributor, tallying 47 extra-base hits, including 10 home runs, and 22 stolen bases through 95 games, has been a big reason why the Red Sox find themselves in the playoff race coming out of the All-Star break.

It’s been a lost season for Lawlar, as the 22-year-old was injured to begin the year and then suffered a setback with a Grade 1 hamstring strain in the middle of June. It seems unlikely that Lawlar sees time with Arizona in 2024, but the shortstop still has fantasy upside in his right-handed bat.

“No idea,” Hyde said when asked. The infielder is feeling better according to the manager, but Mountcastle still hasn’t started to swing yet. Mountcastle seems likely to return before the season comes to an end, but it sounds like this will be closer to the end of September than the beginning.

Stewart will take the place of J.D. Martinez, as Martinez is on the paternity list. Stewart should see time against right-handed pitching while he’s with the team, but likely will only be up for three days.

Martinez will be away from the team from anywhere between one to three games while he’s on the list. The Mets recalled D.J. Stewart in a corresponding transaction.

Kershaw was placed on the injured list Saturday with left big toe inflammation, and the hope is that the walking boot will help stabilize the injury. There’s no timetable for when Kershaw will be able to return, but the hope is that his season isn’t over.

Dunn is up to provide some outfield depth. The 25-year-old will head back to Cincinnati, and Dominic Smith was designated for assignment to make room on the active roster.

Smith is being removed from the active roster to make room for Blake Dunn. The 29-year-old will now hit the waiver wire, and there’s a very good chance that the former top prospect is playing for yet another organization before the year ends. If he isn’t claimed, he’ll likely head back to Triple-A.

Rome reports that three people briefed on the situation stated that Tucker sustained a fracture of his shin. This is in direct opposition of what Astros general manager Dana Brown has reported on Tucker’s injury, but he told The Athletic on Monday that “after several rounds of medical imaging, we suspect there was some type of small fracture.” This is all hindsight now with Tucker likely to return shortly, but fantasy managers have the right to feel irked based on the reporting — or lack thereof — of the injury.

Webb began a rehab assignment Sunday after missing around a month with inflammation in his elbow. The right-hander should be back soon if that appearance goes well and add quality depth to the Baltimore bullpen.

Not only is Marte in play to return for the Diamondbacks, but Christian Walker (oblique) is closing in on a return and could be back during the Giants series. That’s great news for Arizona as they close in on a wild card spot, and great news for fantasy managers as well.
