Other top picks: Best business gas credit cards

These gas and fleet cards are also worth considering. Before applying, confirm details on the issuer's website.

Coast Smart Fleet Fuel Card

Best for: Fleet card (up to 10 cents off per gallon)
This card has not been rated by NerdWallet.
The Coast Smart Fleet Fuel Card earns a flat rebate of 2 cents per gallon, no matter where you use it. But you can get a discount of up to 10 cents off per gallon at partner stations, including Exxon and Mobil. You'll also earn 1% back on non-fuel purchases like maintenance and equipment or at restaurants and hotels. Coast cards can be used anywhere Visa is accepted (at gas stations, they can only be used to purchase fuel). There is a monthly fee of $4 per active card.

Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi

Best for: Gas card for wholesale club members - 4% cash back on gas and EV charging
NerdWallet star rating:
4.4
The
Costco Anywhere Visa® Business Card by Citi
turns everyday spending into rewards you can redeem at Costco (although rewards only arrive once a year). You earn bonus rewards on gas, at restaurants, on travel and at Costco itself. There's no annual fee for the card, but you have to be a Costco member (which does require a fee). Learn more and apply.

Shell Small Business Card

Best for: Fleet card for volume-based discounts (up to 6 cents off per gallon)
This card has not been rated by NerdWallet.
The Shell Small Business Card offers a volume-based discount of up to 6 cents per gallon, but you need to purchase more than 10,000 gallons to get the best rebate. There is no per-card fee and you can carry a balance — other fleet cards from Shell are charge cards that do not allow a revolving balance. Use is limited to Shell stations (nearly 13,000 locations) and participating Jiffy Lube stations.

WEX Fleet FlexCard

Best for: Fleet card with large network of stations
This card has not been rated by NerdWallet.
The WEX Fleet FlexCard offers a promotional rebate of 3 cents per gallon for the first 180 days. After that, your discount is volume based. Cards can be used at gas stations in the WEX network (45,000+ locations). There is a monthly fee of $4 per card and additional charges if you use your card at a truck stop.

How to get a business gas card

You can apply for most business gas cards online using business details, including annual revenue, years in business and number of employees. Fleet card applications may also ask for the number of vehicles and your average monthly fuel spend. You can apply for most fleet cards with just your EIN. Business gas cards, on the other hand, require a Social Security number since approval is based largely on your personal credit score.

Are business gas cards worth it?

Business gas cards can deliver a ton of value to everyone from rideshare and delivery drivers to companies with a fleet of vehicles. The best gas cards for business earn 3% back (or up to 4X points if you prefer travel rewards), which can translate to thousands of dollars in savings each year.
Companies with a fleet of five or more vehicles may prefer a fleet card. Most fleet cards offer volume-based discounts — anywhere from 2 to 8 cents per gallon — but you need to purchase 10,000 gallons of fuel per month (or more) to earn the top rebate rate. Fleet cards have other business-friendly benefits, though, including detailed reporting and strict spending controls. Most fleet cards don't require a personal credit check (you can apply with an EIN), so it may be easier to get a fleet card than a traditional business card with gas rewards.
