Vampire hunters of the world unite! As Bud Jablonski in the new fang-filled movie Day Shift, Jamie Foxx has two goals: 1) To get back into the good graces of the Vampire Hunters’ Union, which governs all local slaying activities. 2) To gather enough kills to pay off his daughter’s tuition and be able to afford those new braces she needs. To do that, he’ll need some help from his union rep, Seth (Dave Franco), who may have bitten off a little more than he can chew. In other words, no, this isn’t your typical vampire flick — but that’s why it may leave you craving more. And we’ve got you covered, because there’s a whole world of TV shows and movies worth sinking your teeth into after you’ve finished Day Shift. Keep reading to find out what to watch next to really get your blood pumping.

Day Shift

Strapped for cash and with an important financial deadline looming, LA vampire hunter Bud Jablonski (Foxx) is forced to team up with an unlikely ally: his local union rep Seth (Franco). In J.J. Perry’s trippy adventure, not only does workplace politics get a strange new twist, so does the neck-biter genre as a whole. Add Snoop Dogg and Karla Souza into the mix, and you’re in for a bloody treat.

John Carpenter’s Vampires

If vampire hunters are your thing, look no further than John Carpenter’s 1998 movie, which stars James Woods as Jack Crow. Raised by the Catholic Church after his parents’ death, he and his band of slayers (including Danny Baldwin as Tony Montoya) are on a mission to prevent a valuable cross from falling into the wrong hands.

Dark Shadows

Vampires get domestic in Tim Burton’s 2012 riff on the classic cult gothic soap opera. Johnny Depp is Barnabus Collins, whose mansion is the pride of 18th-century Collinsport, Maine. But when he spurns the affections of vengeful witch Angelique (Eva Green), she punishes him by turning into a vampire and burying him alive for 200 years. When he wakes up, it’s 1972, and groovy new haircuts and short skirts aren’t the only things that Barnabus doesn’t recognize about his home. There’re also the dysfunctional Collins descendants who now inhabit it. Helena Bonham Carter, Michelle Pfeiffer and Bella Heathcote round out this cast of Burton muses.

Let Me In

Long before he was stealing scenes in The Power of the Dog, Kodi Smit-McPhee starred as a lonely 12-year-old who befriends a girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) with a bloody (very bloody) little  secret in this Matt Reeves–directed film from 2010.

First Kill

If you’re looking for a show to satisfy your bloodlust, this series will do just that. Juliette — Lettie to her friends — is a queer teenage vampire far more preoccupied with fitting in at her Savannah, Georgia, high school than carrying on her family’s long history of bloodsucking. Meanwhile, Cal, the daughter of a monster-hunting clan, dreams of being the best supernatural fighter there ever was. Sparks (and stakes and fangs) fly when these two cross paths.

Vampires

Heroine Doina Radescu (Oulaya Amamra) is a vampire-human hybrid who desperately wants to be a normal teen in this 2020 French-language series. Doina’s strict mom Martha (Suzanne Clément) thinks the only way her daughter will have that freedom is by popping pills that keep her vampiric cravings at bay. Sound familiar, Juliette?

Night Teeth

If you’re craving more vampire parties, check out Night Teeth (2021), starring Debby Ryan. Ryan plays Blaire, one of two vampires using rookie chauffeur Benny (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) — brother to vampire hunter Jay (Raúl Castillo) — as their driver as they make their way through an evening of bloody good fun.

Castlevania

Castlevania might be an anime series based on a video game, but it shares a lot in common with Day Shift. Both include vampire hunters, vampire society and lots of monsters. Castlevania follows monster hunter Trevor Belmont (Richard Armitage) as he attempts to defeat a vengeful Dracula (Graham McTavish). This is the perfect taster to expand your vampiric palate.

Vampires vs. the Bronx

By the end of Day Shift, you might start to question whether vampires — despite their immense power and unquenchable thirst for plasma — are always the bad guys. Vampires vs. the Bronx (2020) makes things simple: They’re the villains. Period. Watch the YA movie when you’re in the mood for a family-friendly story of good triumphing over fanged evil.

Van Helsing

Like Vampires vs. the Bronx, the 2016 series Van Helsing (inspired by the graphic novel series Helsing) will have you rooting for the vampire fighters — no questions asked. Vanessa Helsing (Kelly Overton) awakens after three years in a coma to learn vampires now rule a crumbling world. As a descendant of the famous monster hunter Abraham Van Helsing, Vanessa becomes the key to saving humanity.

Hemlock Grove

Vampires aren’t the only fantasy creatures inspiring obsession-worthy TV. Just look at Hemlock Grove, a throwback Netflix title that premiered in 2013. The series, set in a Pennsylvania coal town, is often described as “a werewolf drama.” And that’s true — this bloody-sexy show does have werewolves aplenty. But there are also witches, alleged angels and upirs (aka vampires from Eastern European folklore)  running around Hemlock Grove.

Midnight Mass

Not to spoil one of Mike Flanagan’s many Netflix horror masterpieces, but the Emmy-nominated Midnight Mass might just be the ideal series for vampire lovers looking for a new twist on the genre. Come for the chilling perspective on society’s relationship with religion — stay for some surprise bloodsucking behavior. And enjoy the mysteries of Crockett Island all the way through.
