Bojan Bogdanovic said he'd like to win "something" with Fenerbahce before he comes to the US and join the NBA. But after Thursday night's loss to A.C. Milano, that's increasingly unlikely. Fener fell to last place in its Euroleague group and unless it has a complete turnaround, it won't make the Final Four, the team's goal. In Turkey, they aren't doing as well as expected but still have a chance at the crown. Fener also suffered a double blow upfront when both their centers had to leave the game.
One reason things are going badly is Bogdanovic's play. He finally hit a three-pointer Thursday after missing 21 straight but he scored only 11 and increasingly it looks like he is no longer the yellow-and-black's go-to guy. In fact, he came off the bench, reprising his sixth man role from last season.
Bogdanovic got into foul trouble, played only 19 minutes and scored 11 points but was credited with only four shots, hitting three of them. He did go to the line six times, making four. He didn't score a field goal until late in the fourth. After leading the Euroleague in scoring during its "regular season," he's averaging only 8.8 points in the Group of 16, the first round of Euroleague playoffs.
Meanwhile, Zeljko Obradovic, Fener's coach, relied heavily Thursday on Linas Kleiza, who scored 26 points on 12 shots. It's becoming a trend.
Is it likely to diminish the Nets interest in bringing him over? No likely. How confident are the Nets that the 6'8" swingman will join them next year. They simply don't know and Bogdanovic isn't saying. Obradovic has said he's confident the free agent will stay in Turkey.
