3 charged, 2 sought in violent carjacking of Lyft driver in Atlantic City

Three people have been charged and two others are being sought in the violent carjacking and robbery of a Lyft driver in Atlantic City on Monday, officials said

Shawn McCann, 18, and Talibah McCoy, 19, were arrested more than seven hours after the carjacking in Little Egg Harbor along with a 16-year-old, Atlantic City police said in a statement. All three are from Atlantic City.

A Lyft driver told police he was beaten, pepper-sprayed and tossed out of his car on the 2200 block of Melrose Avenue around 6:30 p.m. Monday, police said. The driver was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in the city to be treated for his injuries.

Just before 2 a.m. a Little Egg Harbor police officer saw the stolen vehicle and took the trio into custody. All three were charged with robbery, carjacking, aggravated assault, theft and weapons offenses. McCoy and McCann were also charged with employing a juvenile in the commission of a crime and sent to the Atlantic County jail.

Police brought the teen to Harborfields, a youth detention facility in Egg Harbor City. Police did not provide a description of the two other men being sought.
