Police near the Jersey Shore are searching for a man who walked away from a motel on a major highway where he was lodging with his mother, authorities said.

Egg Harbor Township police began investigating after Ramon Marrero, 47, left a hotel room at the Ramada Inn on the Black Horse Pike on Thursday evening, at about 8:45 p.m., the department said in a social media post.

Since his disappearance, investigators launched a search including flying drones in the marshlands near the hotel and gathering video footage.

Marrero was staying at the hotel while visiting from Worcester, Massachusetts, police said. Marrero’s mother is his full-time caregiver after he suffered a brain injury, police said.

The hotel is about two miles from Atlantic City’s Chelsea Heights neighbor, which leads to the boardwalk and beach.

His mother told police her son disappeared from the hotel’s area around 6 a.m. Thursday. He was still considered missing on Sunday afternoon.

A screenshot of security footage shared by police shows Marrero walking in the hotel’s parking lot, wearing a red shirt and dark shorts.

Police said he was last seen wearing those clothes and left his dentures, phone and other belongings at the hotel. Police described him as balding, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and with a stocky build.

Anyone with information is asked to contact township police at 609-927-5200.
