Need a job? Here are 7 companies hiring thousands of N.J. workers

While plenty of employers have announced layoffs recently in New Jersey -- including the Progresso soup facility in Vineland, Express Scripts in Franklin Lakes and NRG Home Solar in Wall -- thousands of jobs are still available in the Garden State.

Many companies are hiring in new industries, expanding conventional ones and adding on seasonal workers. Here are just a few companies that say they plan to hire a substantial number of workers in New Jersey.

Amazon

Amazon announced in January it plans to add 100,000 full-time jobs in the U.S. over the 18 months, including 2,500 in New Jersey.

The jobs include both entry-level work and skilled positions such as engineers and software developers.

The company, which already employs 11,000 at seven sites in the Garden State, said the new hires will work at additional fulfillment centers.

Home Depot

Home Depot announced earlier this month it plans to hire 1,650 part-time and seasonal workers in the coming weeks.

Open positions include sales, cashiers, online order fulfillment in its retail stores and distribution facilities.

Wegmans

Wegmans is planning to open two stores in northern New Jersey this year and has already begun hiring.

The grocery chain announced in January it was looking to hire 300 part-time workers at its new Hanover location, and plans to employ a total of 500 workers at its new Montvale store.

Six Flags

Six Flags Great Adventure & Safari and Hurricane Harbor in Jackson announced in January it was hiring 4,000 people for its 2017 season.

Positions available range from admissions, guest relations, ride operations, aquatics, safari, culinary services, retail, security, internal auditing and marketing.

Residence Inn Marriott Jersey City

This past December, the Residence Inn Marriott in Jersey City announced it was looking to fill numerous positions at the 152-room, extended-stay hotel, including front desk, night auditors, housekeeping, breakfast attendant, sales coordinator and bartenders.
