Walt Whitman Bridge will experience closures overnight Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

GLOUCESTER CITY — In preparation for the upcoming re-decking of the Walt Whitman Bridge, four existing gantries need to be removed. As a result there will be intermittent closures of the Bridge beginning Monday, 2/28, at 8:00 p.m.

The schedule has been adjusted because of today’s inclement weather.

Here is the planned construction schedule:

MONDAY, 2/28, AND TUESDAY 3/1, BETWEEN 8PM AND 5AM the Eastbound Lanes of the Walt Whitman Bridge will be closed intermittently for periods up to 20 minutes.

WEDNESDAY, 3/2, BETWEEN 8PM AND 5AM the Westbound Lanes of the Walt Whitman Bridge will be closed intermittently for periods up to 20 minutes.

THURSDAY, 3/3 BETWEEN MIDNIGHT AND 5AM the entire bridge will be closed intermittently for periods up to 20 minutes. Between 8pm and 5am when the Bridge is open traffic will be restricted.

Drivers who would normally use the Walt Whitman Bridge during the construction are advised to use either the Ben Franklin or Commodore Barry Bridge.
