One man shot, another man stabbed in Camden; both dead

CAMDEN — Two men were killed in the city Monday night during two incidents that police believe are not related, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's office.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. William Howell, 23, of Camden, was shot multiple times while sitting in a 2011 Chevrolet Impala parked at the intersection of Rose and Mechanic streets.

A half-hour later, at about 7:49 p.m. police received a report of a person stabbed at Federal and 24th streets in Camden. Investigators learned two men, Jose Irizarry, 38, of Camden, and a 30-year-old Camden man were both stabbed in what appeared to be a robbery attempt by several men. Irizarry, who was stabbed multiple times, died of his injuries. The 30-year-old Camden man was also stabbed several times and remains in treatment at Cooper Hospital in Camden.
