Refused sex, Camden man admits he strangled teen to death

CAMDEN — A city man admitted Tuesday that he suffocated a 16-year-old girl after she resisted having sex with him eight years ago, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk said.

Warren Dixon, 25, pleaded guilty before Superior Court Judge Samuel Natal to aggravated manslaughter and attempted aggravated sexual assault in connection with the suffocation death of Sherita Williams.

Dixon faces a 20 year prison term.

He admitted to Natal that on Nov. 29, 2003, he met Williams in Camden and took her under the 36th Street bridge in Pennsauken Township. While there, he attempted to have sex with her and when she resisted he put his hands around her neck, choking her.

Dixon was arrested six years later in January 2009 after a stain on Williams' clothing was matched to Dixon's DNA profile which was on file as a result of a prior criminal conviction.

Dixon will be required to serve 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole. In addition Dixon's name will be added to New Jersey's registry of convicted sex offenders and he will be subject to community supervision for life.
