Rutgers–Camden to host Alina Fernandez, daughter of Fidel Castro, as part of Women’s History Month

CAMDEN – Growing up as the daughter of Fidel Castro is interesting enough. But Alina Fernandez, author of Castro's Daughter: An Exile's Memoir of Cuba and an outspoken critic of the Cuban communist regime, has plenty to say about her father and homeland.

She will offer a glimpse into her life and the political climate of Cuba during a free, public lecture at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 2, at Rutgers–Camden.

Now a Miami resident, Fernandez hosts the radio show "Simplemente Alina" (Simply Alina). Her life story is being produced into a movie by Mankind Entertainment, with a screenplay written by Academy Award-winner Bobby Moresco of "Crash," and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Nilo Cruz.

The lecture, which is part of Rutgers–Camden's Women's History Month celebration, will take place in the Multi-Purpose Room of the Campus Center, located on Third Street, between Cooper Street and the Benjamin Franklin Bridge on the Rutgers–Camden campus. Complimentary refreshments will be offered.
