Camden man to serve 22 year prison term for 2009 shooting death

CAMDEN — A city man will serve 22 years in state prison for his role in the 2009 shooting death of a teenager inside his residence.
Jose Feliciano, 26, of Pleasant Street was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Samuel Natal on a charge of aggravated manslaughter. Feliciano was also sentenced to seven years on a count of aggravated assault, which will be served concurrently to the 22-year term.
Feliciano admitted in February to killing 16-year-old Ramon Roman on Aug. 4, 2009. Shortly before the shooting, Feliciano was firing a handgun into the air on his property. Roman, a longtime acquaintance and neighbor, went next door to intervene. Feliciano shot him about 4:30 p.m. Roman fled the house and collapsed on the sidewalk outside.
When police arrived, Feliciano fired at them. As the officers returned fire 68-year-old Juan Lopez was struck and killed in a house neighboring Feliciano’s. The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office review of that incident is ongoing.
