Gloucester Township Police: Autistic 11-year-old broke into Target store

GLOUCESTER TWP. — An 11-year-old who suffers from Asperger's Syndrome has been identified as the one who broke into a Target store on Berlin-Cross Keys Road.

The child left his home in the middle of the night on April 24 without his parents' knowledge, broke a window an entered the store, police said. He left without taking anything.

The child's mother identified him as a suspect through the police department's You Tube Channel. Police said the parents, who were embarrassed, cooperated "completely" with police.

Target officials said they were not interested in pursuing criminal complaints.

Asperger's Syndrome is a form of autism.

Police said the child frequents the store with his parents — especially to buy DVDs.

Police said it was the first time You Tube was used to assist in a case. The You Tube video attracted 1,683 views over two days, police said.
