Deptford man indicted on charge he ran over bicyclist while driving drunk

CAMDEN — A Deptford Township man has been indicted by a Camden County grand jury on vehicular homicide charges for allegedly striking and killing a bicyclist while being under the influence at the time, Camden County Prosecutor Warren W. Faulk said Thursday.

Daniel Stocklin, 39, of the 100 block of Hampshire Avenue, is accused of being well over the legal limit when his vehicle struck Cecilia Harrop, also 39, about 3 p.m. last July 7 while she rode her bike at the intersection of Broadway and Chestnut streets here. A Westville police officer was nearby at the time of the collision and stopped Stocklin after he left the scene. Stocklin was arrested in a neighboring town.

The grand jury also returned a second unrelated vehicular homicide charge against a motorist and one for murder.

• Kenney Bellegarde, 21, of Hollis Street in Philadelphia, was indicted for vehicular homicide. Waterford Township police responded about 10 p.m. Oct. 1 to a report of a head-on collision at the intersection of Routes 73 and 30. Bellegarde is accused of driving his green Saturn east on Route 30 and swerving into oncoming traffic. He is charged with driving head-on into a Dodge driven by Amanda Lewis. Lewis was badly injured. Lewis’ passenger, her 22-year-old niece, Vanessa Tomlin, died in Cooper University Hospital in Camden from injuries sustained in the crash. A passenger in Bellegarde’s Saturn, Davins Bataille, was also seriously injured. Bellegarde was also driving while well over the legal limit, a spokesman for Faulk said.

• Eugene Simpson, 18, of Rand Street in Camden was indicted for murder. He is accused of shooting Roberto Dante Burgess, 31, on Dec. 29 outside the Marlton Pike Food Market on the 300 block of Marlton Pike.
