Gloucester City man sentenced to 25 years for attempted murder in Camden

CAMDEN — A Gloucester City man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for shooting a Camden man five times.

Charles Gould was found guilty of robbing and then shooting Brandon Adams, 24, on the afternoon of March 30, 2010, authorities said.

Prosecutors said Gould chose his victim because Adams was well-known as a street-level drug dealer who carried drugs and cash. Evidence was also presented that Adams did not resist the robbery and handed over what narcotics and cash he had before Gould opened fire, said authorities.

Adams did not identify Gould as his assailant during the trial, authorities said. Three eyewitnesses who told police they saw the shooting and identified Gould later recanted during the trial, but recordings of their earlier statements were played for the jury, said authorities.

Gould must serve 19 years of his sentence before he’s eligible for parole.
