Quarterback Carson Wentz was spectacular at times, completing 27-of-39 for 306 passing yards, but threw a bad red-zone interception in the third quarter and missed Nelson Agholor, who was wide open on an out pattern on third down with nothing but Lincoln Financial Field green in front of him.

Wentz did throw two touchdown passes. The first went to Golden Tate, his first as an Eagle, on the opening drive of the game and another to Jordan Matthews. Tate finished the night with seven catches for a team-high 85 yards.

Eagles running backs combined for 130 rushing yards with Josh Adams carrying 20 times for 85 yards.

Running back Darren Sproles, who has been out since Week 1, had a triumphant return with a 14-yard touchdown run.

Washington’s bad luck with quarterbacks continued as Colt McCoy broke his right fibula in the second quarter, just two weeks after starter Alex Smith broke his fibula and tibia.

Enter ex-Eagle and ex-Jet quarterback Mark Sanchez, who was signed after Smith’s injury. Sanchez did not fare well, completing 13 of 21 passes for 100 yards.

Next Sunday the Eagles travel to Dallas for a 4:25 p.m. game against the 7-5 Cowboys.
