Here’s how many N.J. schools have gone virtual so far this year due to COVID

Only 17 schools in New Jersey are known to have closed due to COVID-19 cases since the 2021-22 school year began in late August, according to the state Department of Education.

The closure list provided to NJ Advance Media on Wednesday includes 12 public schools — out of nearly 2,500 public schools in the state — and five of the approximately 140 state-approved private schools for students with disabilities.

It would not include any non-public schools, except for those in that one category, a state DOE spokesperson said.
