Giants free agency tracker: Isaiah McKenzie, Drew Lock, Jalen Mills signed; A’Shawn Robinson to Panthers

NFL Week 11: New York Giants at Washington Commanders

Welcome to Day 2 of NFL free agency.

The Giants had a busy Day 1 on Monday, highlighted by their massive trade for (and contract given to) Panthers edge rusher Brian Burns. It was a bold move, to say the least, especially since it’s not like the Giants are a win-now team (at least based on how terrible they looked last season).

The Giants also lost their two most notable in-house free agents — running back Saquon Barkley (Eagles) and free safety Xavier McKinney (Packers). Those are significant losses.

They signed Devin Singletary to help replace Barkley, though replacing him won’t be easy — even as it’s clear they made the right move letting him walk.

They have yet to replace McKinney, who is coming off the best season of his career. Click here to see some relatively low-cost safety options.

If you want to catch up on what happened Monday, here’s where you can find our Day 1 tracker.

Keep it right here Tuesday to follow along with all of the Giants’ signings, free agency news, and live updates.

• The Giants have added a wide receiver — Isaiah McKenzie, who also has returner potential. He was with the Colts last season and was with the Bills from 2018-22. So he overlapped there with Brian Daboll.

• The Giants need to replace free safety Xavier McKinney, and Joe Schoen clearly doesn’t want to invest big bucks in the position. So he has signed Jalen Mills to a one-year contract — a low-commitment, low-risk move.

• Another departure for the Giants — defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson, who got a three-year, $22.5 million contract from the Panthers. Robinson, who is about to turn 29, saw his playing time increase last season after the Leonard Williams trade.

• The Giants made a cheap veteran quarterback addition, with a one-year contract worth up to $5 million for Drew Lock. Obviously, they could still draft a quarterback at No. 6.

• The Giants want to add a veteran quarterback, even as they’re also in the mix to draft Daniel Jones’ replacement high next month. They showed interest in Jameis Winston — as did the Titans and Browns. And Winston has decided to sign with the Browns ($8.7 million for one year), according to Bleacher Report. The Giants also hosted Russell Wilson on a visit, but he signed with the Steelers. Last season’s Giants backup quarterback, Tyrod Taylor, just signed with the Jets.

• The Rams are signing cornerback Darious Williams. This is notable for the Giants because they hosted Williams on a visit Sunday. They need a No. 2 corner to play opposite Deonte Banks, since they’ll surely let Adoree’ Jackson walk. Williams played for the Rams from 2018-21 and for the Jaguars from 2022-23.
