Long night in Chatham

We figured Chatham and Randolph were comparably talented this year as the top two seeds, respectively, for the upcoming Morris County Tournament. But who would have known they could be barely separated by a 10-foot pry bar?

These two weren’t close to resolving the question after 32 minutes of basketball Wednesday night in Chatham. They continued in a deadlock for three overtime periods before Chatham finally made some separation in the fourth OT to pull out a thrilling 70-65 victory. Jack Rooney scored five of his 14 points and Ryan Doherty was 4 of 4 from the foul line in those final four minutes to lead the Cougars. Chatham was an usteady 23 of 38 from the line overall, but 9 of 12 in the fourth overtime.

McDonald’s All-American Naz Reid paced the effort against Patrick School with 30 points and 12 rebounds, and senior guard Ithiel Horton led the balanced showing against Linden with 15 points and five rebounds.
