New year, new Top 20

Mahwah dropped some tough games against Top 20 opponents this week, starting with a 4-1 loss against No. 14 Summit. The Thunderbirds also fell to No. 11 Randolph, 5-3, and No. 15 Chatham, 6-1.

Last week: No. 19
Ridge had a slightly bumpy week, starting with a 2-2 tie against Southern. The Red Devils also lost to No. 9 Pope John, 3-1.

Last week: Not ranked
Montclair took down Tenafly, then grabbed its best win of the season by beating then-No. 18 Madison, 4-1, last Thursday.

Pingry took the week off, but resumes its slate against No. 19 Ridge on Thursday.

Glen Rock had its 29-game winning streak against public schools snapped and went 0-3 this week, dropping games against three Top 20 teams – Chatham, Seton Hall Prep and Randolph.

Chatham had an up-and-down week. The Cougars downed then-No. 10 Glen Rock, 3-1, fell to then-No. 16 Summit, 3-2, then bounced back with a 6-1 win over Mahwah.

Summit is perfect for another week thanks to a 4-1 win over Mahwah, 3-2 victory against No. 15 Chatham and 7-3 win over St. Joseph (Mont.).

Wall kept its unbeaten record intact with three wins, downing Jackson Liberty, Jackson Memorial – a one-goal victory – and Central Regional.

Bergen Catholic split its two games this week, both against out-of-state competition. The Crusaders lost to Catholic Memorial (Mass.), 5-0, but bounced back for a 3-1 win over Bishop Feehan (Mass.).

Randolph remained unbeaten with a 2-2 tie against No. 7 Seton Hall Prep, plus wins over Mahwah and then-No. 10 Glen Rock.

St. John Vianney picked up a simple 4-0 win over St. Joseph (Met.) on Tuesday in its only action of the week.

Gloucester Catholic took down Bishop Eustace, 7-2, in its only action of the week. The Rams take on No. 4 St. Augustine in a big test on Thursday.

Last week: No. 2
Delbarton's lone game of the week came Tuesday, when it took down Pope John 6-0. The Green Wave continue on against Northern Highlands on Thursday.

Last week: No. 1
The Ironmen kept their unbeaten season going with a pair of wins this past week. Don Bosco Prep downed Albany Academy (N.Y.), 4-2, then pushed past Princeton Day, 3-2.
