The Summit Fire Department and its FMBA Local 54 members escorted Santa Claus to Overlook Medical Center for an annual Christmas Eve visit to pediatric floor patients.

On the morning of Dec. 24, Summit firefighters contacted the Overlook to determine how many children were hospitalized in the unit. Once the firefighters had a list, they shopped for and wrapped presents.

The department members -- including Santa Claus played by firefighter Tom Murray -- visited to “help spread some Christmas joy" and deliver gifts to the hospitalized children.

“The Summit Fire Department appreciates the doctors, nurses and medical center staff who help to make these special holiday visits possible,” said fire chief Eric Evers. “Summit FD has been participating in this event for the past 31 years, and it is a highlight of the holidays for us all.”
