N.J. cannabis industry leaders to talk homegrow, hemp, CBD at April 13 networking event

For its April 13 Speakers Series and networking event, NJ Cannabis Insider is hosting a talk on homegrow and hemp with industry insiders. The two-hour event will touch on topics that revolve around the medical and recreational aspects of letting residents grow their own cannabis, how the hemp industry is going to grow alongside it and the future of CBD.

Sen. Vin Gopal, D-Monmouth, who last week introduced a bill for adult-use home cultivation, will be one of the featured speakers.

“We shouldn’t be criminalizing growing a plant if voters already made it legal,” Gopal said during a panel hosted by the New Jersey Political Science Association on Friday.

NJ Cannabis Insider’s April Speaker Series presented by Foley Hoag will be from 10 a.m. to noon. Gopal will discuss the status of the bill and other efforts he and the Legislature are working on for the cannabis space. Gopal’s bill would allow those who are above 21 to grow up to six plants and a maximum of 12 per household. Homegrow has often been cited as beneficial for medical patients and those who cannot afford the price of recreational cannabis sold through retailers.

The event will also feature a panel to discuss developments in the hemp and CBD space with Pure Genesis CEO Faye Coleman, HillviewMed CEO Ken VandeVrede and Foley Hoag cannabis law practice counsel Mike McQueeny.

McQueeny also serves as counsel for the New Jersey Cannabis Trade Association, a trade organization that represents the medical marijuana providers within the state. Outside of their respective business roles, Coleman and VandeVrede are founding members of the New Jersey CannaBusiness Association’s Hemp Policy Committee.

The committee was established in the wake of the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill when hemp went from being a Schedule 1 drug to being an agricultural commodity.

The virtual speakers series also offers serious a networking session, where cannabis insiders have the opportunity to discuss and connect with one another. Roundtables will have focused discussions on what what you need to know to get in on New Jersey’s Green Rush. Supporting sponsors, include:

  • Supreme Security Alarms, New Jersey leaders in the security space, providing custom designed, state-of-art systems to protect your business.
  • Hance Construction was selected to build one of the first cannabis grow facilities in New Jersey, and has since worked on other medical cannabis projects, offering consulting and site-location services
