3 more MVC agencies closed by COVID

Three state Motor Vehicle Commission agencies closed Monday in Newton, Medford and Salem after employees tested positive for the coronavirus in each one, bringing the current statewide total to 11 agencies shut down.

The closures affect the vehicle centers in Newton and Medford and the Salem Licensing Center.

There is some good news: MVC officials expect the Manahawkin Vehicle Center, Toms River Licensing Center, and Edison Licensing Center to reopen Tuesday after being closed for sanitizing, quarantining and contact tracing.

The Newton Vehicle Center will be closed until Jan. 20 after an employee who tested positive was last there on Jan. 5.

Both Medford Vehicle Center and Salem Licensing Center will be closed until Saturday, Jan. 23. Individual employees who tested positive at each of these locations were in the buildings last on Jan. 8, officials said.

The remaining 8 closed as off Tuesday are scheduled to reopen on the following dates:

  • South Plainfield Licensing Center – Friday, Jan. 15
  • Somerville Vehicle Center – Friday, Jan. 15
  • Delanco Licensing Center – Friday, Jan. 15
  • Springfield Vehicle Center – Tuesday, Jan. 19
  • Rahway Licensing Center – Tuesday, Jan. 19
  • Newton Vehicle Center – Wednesday, Jan. 20
  • Medford Vehicle Center – Saturday, Jan. 23
  • Salem Licensing Center – Saturday, Jan. 23

Appointments at motor vehicle centers for new titles/registrations and registration renewals for customers ineligible for online renewal can be scheduled at NJMVC.gov. More appointment times are being added and drivers should check regularly, officials say.

Drivers are also advised to check the status of the agency they intend to visit on NJMVC.gov before traveling there. They also should check the “cheat sheet” guide on the MVC website to determine if they need an appointment or can do their transactions on the MVC website.
