Longer trains are coming. They’ll reduce crowding on PATH.

Commuters riding PATH’s Newark-World Trade Center line will get relief from crowding beginning in March when offices expect to start phasing in the first longer nine-car trains.

“There has been serious testing in February,“ said Kevin O’Toole, Port Authority board chairman. “There will be a preliminary kick-off (of 9 car trains) in March and April and they’ll be gradually increased through year.”

Riders were warned in PATH alerts to expect to see the nine-car test trains running on the Newark-World Trade Center line, that would not stop to pick-up passengers.
