When will I get my tax refund? Here’s how to find out.

If you’ve already filed your tax return, you’re probably eager for the IRS to send your refund.

The IRS Where’s my refund? tool can help.

The tool will give you a detailed refund status messages in what the IRS calls “plain language,” which the agency says will reduce the need to call.

The agency said so far this filing season, tax refunds are 29% smaller than they were during the same time a year ago.

If you’re eligible for the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) or Additional Child Tax Credit (ACTC) funds, and if you receive direct deposit or get your refund on a debit card, most people will get the money by Feb. 27, the IRS said.

But you’ll have to wait until Feb. 17 to see updated projected deposit dates on the Where’s my refund tool if you take those credits, the IRS said.

Others who e-file their returns can usually see their refund status on the tool about 48 hours after filing.

To check on an amended return, use the Where’s My Amended Return? tool.

The agency said it usually takes up to 21 days for the IRS to process your refund if you e-filed your return. Amended returns and those sent by mail can take up to four weeks or more, it said, and it will be longer if your return needs corrections or extra review.
