Apple settlement update: Some iPhone users eligible for up to $349 over audio issues

The deadline to sign up for your part of a $35 million class action settlement against Apple is fast approaching.

If you owned an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus between Sept. 16, 2016, and Jan. 3, 2023, and you complained to Apple about audio issues and paid Apple to repair or replace your device, you may be eligible for a payment.

The deadline to apply and tell the settlement administrators how you want to receive your payment is June 3.

“Apple denies that the devices had such issues and denies all allegations of wrongdoing,” according to the settlement website.

Apple did not reply to requests for comment.

The settlement includes people who paid Apple for repairs or replacements after complaining to the company, and whose complaints show in Apple’s records as about “Sound-Speaker, Sound-Microphone, Sound – Receiver, Unexpected Restart / Shutdown,” or “Power On – Device Unresponsive,” the settlement website said.

Those customers will receive at least $50 and no more than $349, the settlement website said.

People who had the issues but did not pay Apple for a repair or replacement are also eligible, it said. They are eligible for up to $125, it said.

People eligible for the settlement may have received a postcard or email with a Notice ID and Confirmation Code, which need to be entered into the settlement website so you can determine how you would like to receive your payment. Those who did not receive the communication can use a lookup tool on the settlement website, it said.

If you are still not sure whether you are eligible, you can call (833) 633-0343.
