Man, 92, killed in crash at Garden State Parkway exit

BERKELEY -- A 92-year-old Burlington County man was killed in a car crash Sunday afternoon after his car was struck by a pick-up truck at the end of an exit ramp for the Garden State Parkway, officials said.

Police responded at 2:42 p.m. to Double Trouble Road at the ramp for exit 77 on the Parkway in Berkeley for a report of a crash.

Al Della Fave, a spokesman for the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, said in an email that a preliminary investigation shows a 2014 Ford Fusion was stopped at the stop sign on the Parkway's exit ramp and "began to slowly emerge from the ramp."

The Fusion was hit near the driver's side door by a 1997 Ford F250 traveling eastbound on Double Trouble Road, Della Fave said. The Fusion came to a stop on the shoulder, up against a fence, and its driver was pronounced dead at 3:10 p.m., Della Fave said. The man's identity was not released Monday morning.

The pickup truck came to a stop on the roadway, Della Fave said.

Della Fave said the Fusion did not yield to the F250, and authorities are not ruling out that the driver suffered a medical emergency prior to the crash.
