Shore town reportedly to vote on more restrictive beach, boardwalk rules

SEASIDE HEIGHTS - Borough officials are expected to vote Wednesday on amending an ordinance to place more restrictions on access to the borough's popular beaches and boardwalk, News 12 reported.

Under one of the proposed rules, beach hours would be extended from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays, requiring anyone who wants to use the beach before 9 p.m. - when the beaches will be cleared and the gates will be locked - to purchase beach badges before the cashiers close at 6 p.m., the report said.

Borough Administrator Christopher Vaz told News 12 that the beaches previously closed at 6 p.m. but that people would still come afterward, "usually with large coolers and tents" and would bring glass bottles and leave a mess.

Other new restrictions under the amended ordinance include a ban on e-cigarettes and large tents. The boardwalk would also be closed between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m., the report said.

People out for a morning jog, walk or to take pictures of the sunrise will still be allowed to do so, Vaz told News 12, adding that the new measures are meant to deter any potential problems after bars close.

The borough council is expected to vote at its regular meeting, which is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. on Wednesday.
