State Police worker admits to sexually assaulting child, report says

TOMS RIVER - A civilian employee of the New Jersey State Police has admitted to sexually assaulting a child and filming another while she showered, the Asbury Park Press reported.

Milton Cortina, 39, of Little Egg Harbor Township, pleaded guilty before Ocean County Superior Court Judge Rochelle Gizinski on Monday to charges of aggravated sexual assault and producing child pornography, the report said.

Cortina, who worked as a mechanic for the New Jersey State Police, admitted he sexually assaulted a child under the age of 13 and filmed another child younger than 13 while she was in the shower, the report said.

Cortina earned more than $51,000 at the State Police job in 2015, but has been in jail since his Jan. 30 arrest, the Asbury Park Press reported.

Under the terms of a plea deal, Cortina faces a 20-year prison sentence, the report said. He will also be required to forfeit his employment, the report said.

Cortina is scheduled to be sentenced on July 21.
