Man stabbed in face with screwdriver in attack at Jersey Shore motel

TOMS RIVER - Two Ocean County residents were hospitalized Monday night after two men broke into their motel room and assaulted them, police said.

Two men in dark-colored clothing forced their way into a room at the Pier One Motel on Route 37 at 9:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

A 42-year-old Brick Township man in the room was stabbed below his eye with a screwdriver, police said.

A woman in the room - a 28-year-old Seaside Heights resident - was not stabbed, but was assaulted and suffered an apparent collarbone fracture, Toms River Police Department spokesman Ralph Stocco said.

The man and woman were both treated and released from a local hospital, police said.

The suspects did not take anything during the incident before they fled the scene, possibly in a silver vehicle with New York license plates, police said.
