3 hurt when car plows into medical building

Three people were injured when a woman accidentally drove a car into the front of a medical building in Manchester on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2018.

Three people were injured Thursday morning after a driver’s foot slipped off the brake of her car and hit the gas, causing the vehicle to smash into the waiting room of a medical office in Manchester, authorities said.

The driver, a 78-year-old woman from the Whiting section of Manchester, was attempting to park a 2007 Hyundai Sonata when the car went over the curb and into the brick and glass front of Medical Associates of Marlboro on Route 70, according to police.

The impact of the crash knocked two women - a 51-year-old from Brick and an 78-year-old from Whiting - from their seats in the office’s waiting room. A 76-year-old Haledon woman also was hurt. All three were transported to local hospitals to be treated for injuries not considered life-threatening.

While the driver was not hurt, the building along Route 70 was heavily damaged.

Police are still investigating but said “driver error” is the likely cause of the crash.
