The GOP primary field is, once again, crowded. I stopped counting the candidates after someone named Doug Burgum announced. With full acknowledgment that it is indeed — as stated in the above cartoon by a concussed Ron DeSantis — early, voters don’t seem to be buying what Trump’s opponents are selling.
There’s not a ton of good polling at this point but what we do have shows DeSantis the clear leader amongst the non-Trump candidates, and he’s 30 points back. It’s a difficult, maybe impossible, needle to thread with GOP primary voters. How do you run against Trump with an electorate that still loves him?
