Cops investigating after male slashed in head

Police are investigating an attack that occurred in the early morning of the Fourth of July in Paterson, authorities said Thursday.

Paterson police responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Mercer and Lafayette streets at 12:52 a.m., officials said. Officers discovered a male victim with a laceration behind his right ear that was not life-threatening.

The victim is nonverbal and could not tell officers what happened, authorities said.

Officials did not name the victim and did not immediately respond to an inquiry about the victim’s age.

The victim was transported to Saint Joseph’s Medical Center for treatment, where a doctor advised that the laceration appeared to have been caused by a sharp object, officials said.

Additional details about the attack were not immediately available.

The Paterson Police Department Major Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.
