Sale of Skylands Park in Sussex County now scheduled for next week

A Pennsylvania real estate investment firm is expected to buy Skylands Park, shown here in a 1998 file photo, next week for $950,000, less than half of its original asking price.

FRANKFORD

— A Pennsylvania real estate investment firm is expected to finalize its purchase of Skylands Park, a minor-league ballpark in Sussex County that has been shuttered since 2010, next week, the firm's owner said today.

Closing for the $950,000 sale, originally scheduled for last Friday, has been rescheduled to March 15, said Mark Roscioli, owner of the Ardmore, Pa.-based 17 Mile.

Although 17 Mile has not yet found a tenant for the 4,200-seat ballpark in Frankford, Roscioli said baseball is expected to return to the park next year.

“We still have many options and we’re having in-depth discussions with many parties,” said Roscioli, adding his firm plans to make the ballpark a “year-round venue” that will host other events, including concerts.

“We’re confident in our ability to make this happen,” he said.

Roscioli said the closing date was postponed due to a number of technicalities, including getting a certificate of occupancy from Frankford Township.

The $950,000 sale price is less than half the original asking price of $1.99 million sought by Millennium Sports Management, the ballpark's current owners.

Skylands Park, at Routes 15 and 565, was last home to the Sussex County Skyhawks, which played as part of the independent Can-Am League from 2006 to 2010.
