The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Sussex County in northern New Jersey along with Carbon and Monroe counties in northeastern Pennsylvania because of the threat of icy roads Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning.

Forecasters from the weather service’s Mount Holly office say light snow and sleet from a weak low-pressure system is expected to change to freezing rain and freezing drizzle during temperature fluctuations, posing the risk of a light glaze on untreated roads and other untreated surfaces, like walkways.

As a result, some drivers and pedestrians could encounter slippery conditions.

The weather service said the threat of freezing rain and freezing drizzle is highest in high-elevation areas, including parts of Passaic County as well as Sussex.

Most areas of New Jersey will likely see light rain Tuesday night and early Wednesday, amounting to one-tenth of an inch to a half-inch, according to the weather service. Colder areas of the state will likely get less than an inch of snow and sleet.
