What you see here is a good omen. The redesigned 2018 Volvo XC60 looks like a shrink-wrapped XC90, and that bodes exceptionally well for the design and proportions of the rest of Volvo’s 60-series lineup.

While that might be true, SUVs do rule, and so the new 2018 XC60 is the most important member of the 60-series family. Based on the same scalable platform and architecture as the XC90, the XC60 is smaller and seats no more than five people.
Volvo’s now-familiar Drive-E engines are onboard, the T5 getting a turbocharged 4-cylinder, the T6 featuring a turbocharged and supercharged 4-cylinder, and the T8 featuring a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain. It will be available in Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription trim levels, and goes on sale in the fall of 2017.

Completely redesigned and dramatically improved over the old XC60
T5, T6, and T8 model series in Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription trim
All-wheel drive is optional for T5, standard for T6 and T8
Exterior styling and interior design draw heavily from the larger XC90, which is a very good thing
Seats five people, but four are likely to be happier
New driver assistance, collision avoidance, and infotainment technologies
Available 4-zone air purification climate system and killer Bowers & Wilkins audio system
On sale in the U.S. by the end of 2017
What We Think
With its purchase from Ford by China’s Zhejiang Geely, Volvo secured the money necessary to lay the necessary foundation for its future success.
With the redesigned 90-series models, Volvo proved that safety and sensuality are not mutually exclusive concepts.
With the debut of the redesigned 2018 XC60, Volvo had better plan to see a significant increase in showroom traffic. This strikes us as a can’t miss proposition.
