Any reasonably engaged person of a certain age had only one thought when reading Donald Trump’s breakout quote from a new Time cover story: Those weren’t his words.

The POTUS seemed to steal the line “I’m president and you’re not” from the long-running sketch comedy series that he loathes, “Saturday Night Live.”

“SNL” alum and former head writer, Seth Meyers, made the point during his late night show on Thursday, reminding viewers that the famous phrase was first used by Chevy Chase as the host of “Weekend Update.”

President Trump speaks on the phone in 2017 (l.) and in this Oct. 11, 1975 photo released by NBC (r.), Chevy Chase performs on “Saturday Night Live.”

Chase used to open his segment with the line, “I’m Chevy Chase … and you’re not.”

Meyers was quick to take offense to the theft, stating, “I didn’t mind when you talked dirty with Billy Bush or told Russia to hack Hillary’s emails. But when you start stealing bits from ‘Weekend Update’ actors, it is on.”

Trump made the statement during an interview with Time in response to unsubstantiated claims he’s made by telling the reporter: “I can’t be doing that badly because I’m president and you’re not.”
