Video: BMW gives a glimpse into the future with ‘A New Era’

UPDATED:

BMW Group is not content with living in the present.

As seen with its Vision Next 100 Vehicles concept introduced last fall, the automotive brand consistently seems to have its mind set on the future. However, with its latest short film, “A New Era”, BMW Group would like us to know that the future is closer than we may think.

Continuing with its “The Next 100 Years” campaign, the film gives us BMW’s vision of that future while also highlighting each of the brands’ four Vision Next 100 Vehicles, this time side by side and in action. From its Mini concept clearly designed as the ultimate ride-sharing vehicle to its BMW option aimed at families, the company’s new film attempts to bring these ideas to life and show how they could function in our everyday world.

BMW Group’s short film “A New Era” puts all four of the company’s Vision Next 100 concept vehicles onscreen together.

While some of the film may seem over the top (I’m not sure what the point of virtual wheat is), its real focuses are very simple. Safety, connectivity and advanced mobility are areas in which automakers are making advancements every day and autonomous driving is closer than ever to being a very real thing.

“Our philosophy of constantly looking to the future and setting high standards of innovation is what drives the day-to-day work of BMW Group associates,” BMW spokesman Bill McAndrews said. “In the film, ‘A New Era’, we are underscoring this idea and adapting it to our corporate strategy in the coming months and years.”

If the actual future is anything like the one featured here, I’m all on onboard.
