Twitter has taken a number of extra steps during the 2020 election season in order to prevent disinformation from spreading and Election night will be no different.

The social media platform is displaying a warning to users to not get tricked by unconfirmed election news.

“To make sure that people have context about the #Election2020 conversation on Twitter, everyone in the US will now see this reminder that official election results may be delayed, which also points them to the latest news and information,” the Twitter Communications team account wrote while displaying what English-reading and Spanish-reading users in the U.S. are seeing.

The message’s heading reads “Election results may be delayed.”

The message’s body reads: “With the increase in voting by mail, there might be a delay in the announcement of election results. This means you could encounter unconfirmed claims that a candidate has won their race.”

Users are then invited to learn more about how secure voting by mail is or an opportunity to click on a button that reads “find out more.”

Earlier this week, Twitter and Facebook announced that they would label any claims of victory by candidates that might be premature with the phrase “official sources may not have called the race” when the content was posted.
