Leagues One and Two curtailed as EFL votes to keep promotion and relegation

League One and Two clubs have voted to formally end the 2019-20 season with Coventry City confirmed as champions of League One and promoted to the Championship along with Rotherham United. Swindon Town have been confirmed as champions of League Two and promoted along with Crewe Alexandra, in second, and Plymouth Argyle, who finished third.

Earlier today, the 71 EFL clubs voted to retain promotion and relegation in the Championship, League One and League Two if the 2019-20 season cannot be completed.

The decision of the League One clubs means that Wycombe Wanderers, Oxford United, Portsmouth and Fleetwood Town will contest the play-offs, with a push by other clubs to expand them failing. Tranmere Rovers, Southend United and Bolton Wanderers have been relegated to League Two.

In League Two, Cheltenham Town, Exeter City, Colchester United and Northampton Town will contest their play-offs, with the bottom side relegated to the National League — but only if there are guarantees that the National League season will be able to return next season. Stevenage are bottom but may yet be reprieved as rivals Macclesfield are facing a misconduct penalty.

The earlier vote agreed that if the season is curtailed, final placings would be determined on unweighted points per game.

The Championship restarts on June 20.

Play-offs will be played in all circumstances but will not be extended to more than four teams, as had been suggested by one club.
