As the old saying goes, time flies when you’re having fun. It’s hard to believe that more than two years ago, we launched The Athletic in Chicago with a scrappy team eager to produce the best in-depth sports coverage for die-hard fans across the Windy City.

Since then, we haven’t looked back.

The Athletic now has coverage in more than 15 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada, covering everything from great NHL moments to dramatic NBA news to thought-provoking personal interest stories. And we’re only getting started.

Today we’re thrilled to add six new cities to The Athletic’s lineup. This includes the full launch of New York City, Cincinnati, and Dallas and baseball-only coverage in Los Angeles, San Diego and Houston. For fans of teams across these cities, we commit to producing the best sports coverage around with no ads, no pop-ups, and no auto-play videos.

These are some of the ultimate sports towns, and we know you’re going to love what’s in store.

First up, The Big Apple. A city rich in all-time great sports moments from storied teams across five boroughs. A place where fans have witnessed Mark Messier’s triumphant hoist of the Stanley Cup, Aaron Boone’s 11th inning walk-off, and Ali and Frazier’s Fight of the Century.

Our all-star New York editorial team pledges to cover classic moments like these and everything in between starting with Marc Carig on the Yankees and Tim Britton on the Mets. Our hockey coverage will be led by Art Staple on the Islanders, and Shayna Goldman and Rick Carpiniello on the Rangers. The Giants will get star treatment from Patricia Traina, while Mike Vorkunov will tackle the Knicks and Michael Scotto will own the Nets. Lindsey Adler will cover all-things MLB in the market.

And in Cincinnati, the home of five baseball World Championships, the coldest wind chill game in NFL history, and Xavier’s 2004 roaring entrance into its first Elite Eight, we can’t wait to cover great moments for the Queen City. Trent Rosecrans will provide in-depth Reds coverage, while Joe Goodberry will tackle the Bengals. Shannon Russell will cover Xavier and the Bearcats and Mo Egger will provide commentary on all-things Cincinnati sports.

And finally, The Lone Star State. Five Super Bowl titles and eight NFC titles, two American League titles and one Stanley Cup. Don’t mess with Texas but do subscribe to get incredible coverage from our Texas team. Local radio legend Bob Sturm will lead our Cowboys coverage alongside Jeff Cavanaugh and Kevin Turner. Levi Weaver and Jamey Newberg will own the Rangers, while Sean Shapiro will cover the Stars. Or Moyal will lead the charge as editor of our Texas team.

But wait, there’s more.

We are excited to announce additions to our editorial lineups in existing markets with expanded MLB coverage. In St. Louis, the Cardinals will get star treatment from Bernie Miklasz while in Pittsburgh, Rob Biertempfel will own Pirates coverage.

And for the first time, we’ll offered limited coverage in Southern California, Houston and Phoenix for baseball fans. Dennis Lin will own the Padres while Pedro Moura will cover the Los Angeles Angels, and in Texas, Jake Kaplan will cover The Astros. Coming soon, we’ll cover all-things baseball for Diamondbacks fans.

For those just tuning in, The Athletic’s model is simple. We pay our writers well and rely on subscriptions, not ad revenue, to support our business. What results is authentic, in-depth coverage written by journalists who know their teams inside and out.

We are growing fast and we are doing so because of support from our subscribers — to them we say thank you and please help spread the word. We’ll be adding more coverage of more teams in the markets we’re launching today, so stay tuned.

To fans who are new to The Athletic, welcome! If you’d like to subscribe to get all of our coverage, we’re offering a low introductory rate over the next week. Great sports coverage is just a few clicks away. From New York to Cincinnati to Texas and beyond, we can’t wait to show you what we’ve got in store.
